Assessment 2: Case Study- What are the cultural assumptions of this specific organisation?.

Aim of this assessment:

– To study how communities organise by themselves to deal with food waste and food poverty

– To adapt our analytical model to a different organisational context

 

Task:

Considering the content of module 2, you will do an analysis of food rescue organisations as a case. These community organisations are quite widespread, but not very much visible in mainstream media. In your case study, you will choose one of the following organisations, analyse them through our analytical model we studied in module 2. Hence, your analysis should respond to:

– How are economic relations are organised between the relevant actors in this specific organisation? What kind of exchange relations do you see?

– What are the cultural assumptions of this specific organisation? What does drive their motivation/the organisation?

– How are power relations organised in this specific organisation? Who gives decisions? (This may not be easy to understand from the available material, but you can check whether they have a board, trust or any other forms of managerial structure)

 

Choose one of the organisations below to analyse:

– Fair Food from Auckland

– Kiwiharvest from Auckland

– Just Zilch from Palmerston North

– Kaibosh from Wellington

– Kaivolution from Hamilton

 

In particular, please respond to these two questions in your case analysis:

1. What do food rescue organisations primarily problematise? Are their efforts enough to address food waste and food poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand context? Why/Why not?

2. How are economic, cultural and political relations organised in the organisation you chose?

In your assignment, simply answer the questions in details. The available resources can be of help to develop your arguments.
