Assume the role of a ‘niche-development firm’.
Assume the role of a ‘niche-development firm’. In that role, write a detailed report of Malta’s development status, obstacles to economic development, existing resources and potential within the country, concluding with a proposal for a specific development project that will improve human welfare in Malta (EU). ( Hints: introduction should start by writing about Malta a general development situation as it is right now (based on statistics and facts) such as obstacles, existing resources and lack of their potential within the country while narrowing towards favourable conditions within the project.) The ‘Formal Proposal’ needs to cover the following areas:
• Project name and type: START CAFÉ. Basically this business will emulate Starbucks and the company will emphasise on acting responsibly and ethically while providing organic coffee by focusing in the sustainable provision of green coffee. With this in mind, best environmental practices will be set as guidelines to achieve product quality, economic accountability, social responsibility and environmental awareness. (Hints: explain the actual project which may include anything ranging from an infrastructural investment, fair trade initiative, health or education initiative, micro-credit scheme, environmental or social project, etc); (40 Marks)
• Project goals: Specific details about who, what, when, where and how the project will promote human development in your country; (Hints: goals should go hand in hand with the type of project i.e. goals are in line with project and development in its wider sense.) (30 Marks)
• Examples of similar projects that have been successfully launched in other countries; (Hints: by also describing where it has been launched somewhere else.) (15 Marks)
• Financial analysis: Detailed cost estimates, expected rates of return, a repayment schedule detailing how and when the crowd fund will be repaid. (Hints: Only Cost vs Benefits and Break even analysis, how will it contribute in time with emphasis on the CROWD. Try to allow minimum costs but at the same time offering the qualitative product and how this project will contribute to the community and use profits to make business more sustainable for future.) (15 Marks) The report may also contain a Presentation (Powerpoint, PhotoStory, Prezi, etc.). You may also want to create a web-page containing the details of your report. Any other reasonable media maybe used to prepare and present the report. The decision to approve requests and finance this project will depend on the areas of ‘Formal Proposal’ according the marking criteria for level of accuracy, appropriateness and achievability. [Hints: The ultimate target audience is the WIDER community/crowd i.e. the WELL-BEING of the Maltese Society in general (happiness as motive…United Nations Sustainable Development Goals). Here are some other examples to fine-tune and model up the START CAFÉ business accordingly: Neighbourhood Enhancement: Create a mural that depicts values of your community. Organize a campaign to raise money for new playground equipment or reconstruct the playground yourself. Special Needs: Create a promotional campaign that includes helpful tips concerning the respect of and interaction with people who have special needs. Example: Teach a senior how to use a computer or the Internet. Environment: Organize hikes or nature walks and bring bags to collect trash along the trails. Grow own vegetables, fruits, and herbs in your school’s organic garden, and encourage other schools/institutions to do the same. The CAUSE OF THE PROJECT is the most important thing. The stakeholder here is the private business i.e. a B2B initiative to help this development project take off. In a very exclusive manner the service they offer is a platform to reach the crowd, thus a niche development firm is another term for crowd funding – the Stockholm statement version. Develop and launch a project (linked to development) on a niche, territorial and focused level in Malta. Examine the local situation in an economic point of view and then pinpoint an area where there is room for improvement to bring a development breakthrough to help others (health, education, etc…)
