Character & Its Reflection of Social and Cultural Challenges.
Description Read and review the introduction to the section in our textbook titled “A Literature of Social and Cultural Challenge” 1920 – 1945 (pages 1043-1054). Then select one of the short stories listed below from the section “A Literature of Social and Cultural Challenge” and write a 500 word standard five paragraph essay that includes two outside sources. Essay Topic: How does the author use the protagonist (the main character) and/or the antagonist (the bad guy) to reflect on some aspect of the social or cultural challenges of the time in which the story takes place OR the time in which the author wrote the story? Short Stories to Choose From: “That Evening Sun” by William Faulkner “An Angel on the Porch” by Thomas Wolfe “The Jilting of Granny Weatherkill” by Katherine Anne Porter “A Five Dollar Fight” by Richard Wright Requirements You are required to upload two separate documents – – an outline and the revised essay. Each document will be eligible for points for this assignment. Each document has specific requirements. Keep reading to see what they are! Outline: Outline must contain the following SEVEN items: Thesis statement in a single sentence. (The thesis is the main idea of your essay and will be the focal point you return to each time you write a body paragraph – asking yourself: Does this body paragraph directly relate back to my thesis statement? If so, excellent! If not, revise!) Three supporting ideas/points. (Each one of these supporting ideas/points will be what you use as evidence to ‘defend’ your thesis.) Three topic sentences. (Each topic sentence should take one of the three supporting ideas/points and be written so that it can be placed at the beginning of one of the three body paragraphs. Review earlier module material on paragraphs and topic sentences.)
