Claims Essay: Pro-Legalization of Marijuana.
In my claims essay, I will be taking the position of legalizing marijuana nationwide. Federal prohibition on marijuana seems to be only causing more problems. The use of cannabis has been a thing for a long time and the industry has only expanded with no signs of slowing down. The cannabis industry could be a big benefit to our country, financially and in terms of health. It would bring in more revenue for the state and federal governments, create jobs, and decrease the billions of dollars spent on marijuana incarcerations. Moreover, legalizing marijuana will allow the government to lab test and regulate all THC products, which will ensure that these products are safe for consumption. Currently there are hundreds of people around the country being hospitalized with even a handful of deaths. The causes of these cases are still being determined by labs and researchers. While many patients have blamed e-cigarettes and vaping, a large group of patients have pointed their finger at pre-filled THC cartridges which they have acquired from the black market as well as dealers in unlegalized states. This would not be a current epidemic if marijuana was made legal across the country. Before my conclusion I will refute the numerous cons to legalizing marijuana, such as it being a gateway drug, more weed-related emergencies, etc. – Use three academically viable resources, preferably through google scholar (I can assist with this if needed) – Cite sources using MLA format – 1200 words minimum Organization: – Opening paragraph: Introduction of thesis/claim in broad terms, situating the argument within a larger context— this paragraph should culminate with a clear statement of overarching thesis/identification of problem – Body paragraphs (3 or more): Considerations and support, incorporating research – Refutation of opposition: Accounting for and negating at least one chief oppositional perspective – Conclusion: Reiteration of thesis given the discussion of the essay
