a. How does community policing differ from traditional approaches to policing and what is the justification for community policing? i. In this section make sure to provide specific details on how community policing approaches are different from traditional policing approaches and the ways in which community policing is put into action. b. Based on your reading, discuss whether community policing is (or at least was) really happening or whether the notion of community policing is just “window dressing”—meaning that police departments are just “saying” they are doing community policing. i. Make sure to justify your opinion with facts and logical views, also backed up by literature beyond the books/notes in this course. c. Broadly comment on the various types of programs that have fallen under the label of community policing. Based on your review of these programs, what has been the impact of community policing on the crime problem. i. When addressing this section, make sure to note important details such as the amount of research conducted, among other important areas with this question. I am not looking for a description of every type of program considered community policing. d. Other than the impact of community policing on crime, what other impacts has community policing brought about? Should these outcomes/impacts also be considered when evaluating the impact of community policing? Why or why not?
