This activity is to give some practice with conducting interviews. Ask two friends or family members if they would participate in an interview with you. The interview will be about 10 minutes long. Decide whether you will record the interview (e.g. on your phone, audio or video) or take notes. If you plan to record the interview, include this information when you ask your participant’s permission. To prepare: Pick a ‘safe’ topic to interview your participants about. Some suggested topics: Barriers and motivators to participating in sport Experiences of food in overseas travel Reflections on the role of music in teenage-hood For your topic, design 2-3 interview questions that you will ask that will enable you to explore your topic. You may wish to include follow up prompts for your questions. Conduct your interviews. Using your notes and/or recording, think about the themes that emerged. Write a reflection (450-500 words) on your experience of conducting the interviews. What surprised you? What would you do differently next time?
