Your paper must be typed, double-spaced, 12-point font size, in Times New Roman. You must use MLA style. Your paper must have a title that reflects the substance of your paper. Essay I: Culture and Socialization (9%; 3 pages): In 3 pages, you will begin your sociological autobiography by focusing on your cultural background and socialization. This essay should include two specific parts: first, you will interview at least one of your older relatives (parents’ or grandparents’ generation) about the culture in which you were raised; this part should address the cultural norms, values, language, symbols, and material goods that have shaped your family’s and your life. The other part of the essay should consider how different agents of socialization (you must include family, but should choose at least two others, such as peers, school, religious group, mass media, etc.) have helped to shape you, either reinforcing or challenging the cultural norms and values that you were raised with.
