Dementia screening and Headache

Dementia screening and Headache.

Neuro Assignment: Dementia Screening and Headache case study. Instructions (assigned readings will be sent to support) Part 1: Dementia Screening Review the neuro exam and the mental status exam in Bates (or other physical assessment text). Read the assigned AFP articles on dementia screening. Perform the Mini-Cog, the MMSE and the GPCOG on older patients or family members. You need to do each once. It might be a lot to ask of one person. Write at least one paragraph about your observations doing the exams (ease of administration, time to complete each, what you think about these three screening tools, which you like better and why). Hand in copies of the completed Mini-Cog, MMSE, and GPCOG and your observations at the beginning of class. (Links for these screening tools are in this folder). Part 2: Headache Case Study After reading the headache monograph and the section on headache in Fitzgerald, choose one cause of headache (can be either primary or secondary). Prepare a case study/story line. You will pair with a classmate who will perform a history and “physical” to determine the type of headache. Be prepared to answer questions appropriately regarding the symptoms, history, clinical presentation, PE findings and work up of your chosen headache. Your classmate will use their clinical acumen to diagnose your problem. The purpose of this exercise is to learn about the various causes of headaches, their clinical presentation and differential diagnosis and to practice doing a focused assessment.
