ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS: SECTION A Introduction The Diploma in Educational Management Programme aims to empower heads and educators of primary schools, through a body of specialised knowledge, practical skills and experiences, to bring quality and good governance within their schools. In line with the Programme aim, the module Managing Teaching and Learning empowers you to improve your understanding of your roles, responsibilities and duties as the instructional heads of your institutions. Through this module after revising the basic concepts, you are exposed to the new trends in teaching and learning. Then you are called to discuss your supervisory role as an instructional head in order to guide and counsel teachers about differentiation and integration within the classroom. Assessment You are requested to answer both questions as per the guidelines below. Question 1 As Head of School, elaborate on how the following factors related to Brain Based Learning can influence teaching and learning at primary school level: (explain them and say how they are going to influence teaching and learning of both the learner and the educator. provide class examples for each one) (i) Emotional states of learners. (ii) Engagement. (iii) Timing of the lesson. (25 marks) Question 2 As a prospective Head of School, you are called to manage and monitor the teaching and learning process in classrooms. (say how these above factors will influence Teaching and Learning) (i) Elaborate on any two challenges that you may face while conducting this task .(talk about either Bullying ,broken family/frustration/separated parents. How it affect the learners) (ii) Suggest two measures you could take to address both challenges. (iii) Justify the above measures in view of improving teaching and learning processes at primary school level. (25 marks) SECTION B Question 3 [2000 words] As Head of School, during your managing and monitoring exercise, you have identified an aspect of the teaching practice in class which needs to be improved upon, changed or innovated. Discuss how you would go about applying a change model for the implementation of that change/ innovation. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: SECTION A Question 1 Criteria Marks Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Brain Based Learning 1 mark Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of how the following influence teaching and learning at primary school level: (i) Emotional states of learners (ii) Engagement (iii)Timing of the lesson 3 x 6 marks (ii) Use of pertinent examples to support arguments 3 x 2 marks Question 2 Criteria Marks a. Identification of 2 challenges related to teaching and learning in a primary school context that a head of school can face . 2 x 1 mark b. Discussion of how the head of school faces difficulties while addressing the identified challenges. Three aspects covering both challenges are discussed. 3 x 3 mark c. Ability to elaborate on 2 measures to address each challenge. 2 x 3 marks d. Justification of the 2 measures to improve teaching and learning processes at primary school level. 2 x 4 marks SECTION B Question 3 : You as Head master, you enters a classroom when the teacher is doing his/her class on a certain topic and you see that one aspect / technique is not good. It need to be change. Criteria Marks Identification of the need for change/ innovation (why it should be change) 3 Justifying the need for change using an assessment tool (use of checklist/questionnaire to see if it should be change) 5 Setting a strategic plan to initiate change (use team building. Do a team and plan the work to be done to bring the change? How to use it? ) 8 Leadership strategies used to deal with resistance to change. ( some people do not want to change. use ethics/motivation/honesty/fairness to take them on board) 8 Ability to manage conflict ( ho you mange the conflict and convince them to change) 8 Justifying the choice of the change model used and its application (use of one model of change.
