Critique Guidelines Use the S.E.A. framework= Summary, Evaluation, & Application Guiding questions follow – you do not have to answer all questions. You also should not go question by question in your critique, rather your paper should be written as one, well-written, organized, paper with solid introduction and conclusion. You can use S.E.A. as your heading, if you wish. 3 to 5 pages Summary (1 page): Through the eyes of the authors, what are the themes and main points of the article? What is their stance on this issue? How are the main points of the reading connected? How are they unique? Explain. Evaluation (1-2 pages): Wrestle with concepts and ideas of the paper What claims does the author make and how are they supported? (With valid research? Opinion? Personal experience?) Do you agree or disagree with the author’s position? Why? Why not? Do the findings support or contrast with your opinion (or the opinions of others) on this topic? Application (1-2 pages): How does this issue apply to the real world of education and schooling today? What valuable lessons for understanding education, leadership, and schooling can be found in this research? How can you in your unique situation use this research-based knowledge? Throughout, make clear connections to other course materials, as appropriate. As always, use APA format and cite all materials correctly, including a reference page.
