A young patient, 6 years old, arrives at the emergency department and has just fallen from their trampoline. They are being carried in by their parents because the patient cannot put any weight on their right leg. After being briefly assessed you read the following information from their chart:
femur is intact
synovial joint of patella is intact
both bones of the shin are fractured in the diaphysis
epiphyseal line is not damaged
phalanges, metatarsals, and tarsals did not suffer any damage.
Instructions:
Explain each of the observations above to your patient and their parents so that they understand what happened to the leg.
Be specific and discuss all bones of the lower limb and if they should expect any growth issues with their bones.
