Research paper topic must address one (1) of the following research topics. Research paper topics: *In Toronto, it matters where you live. Explain why some suburban communities at the structural/macro level are disadvantaged in comparison to downtown Toronto communities. * In your paper, your research topic must be more narrowly focused into a specific argument or position based on one of these topics. In order to receive a good grade on research paper, your analysis must examine structural/macro level issues (and not the experiences of specific individuals) in Toronto. Your paper must include specific examples based on Toronto neighbourhoods, the experiences of specific social or immigrant groups, Toronto events, and/or government policies to support your argument or position. Examples should not be derived from your own personal observations. Instead, examples should originate from books, journals or media report and all sources, including examples, must be properly cited using APA style. Interviewing people is NOT an acceptable source. The discussion of examples should not be the main focus of your paper. It is important to consider relevant theories and to provide scholarly evidence for your argument or position. Your paper must: (1) include a clearly stated and developed research argument or thesis; (2) clearly explain important concepts used in the paper; (3) be analytical (i.e. critically engage with at least one relevant theory or model) and not be descriptive or informational in nature. Many theories were presented in class during week 4 and week 5; (4) draw from the contents of at least five (5) scholarly sources (scholarly books, peer-reviewed articles, government reports and statistics) that are relevant to your topic (published between 2009-2019). Scholarly peer-reviewed articles can be accessed from the Ryerson University library using academic search engines ( like ProQuest, JSTOR, or Academic Search Premier) at https://library.cf.ryerson.ca/guides/view/?guide=824. It is acceptable to include one/two American scholarly sources as part of your five scholarly sources. You can also use reference material from the lecture and the course texts, but this material must be properly cited and they do not count toward your five scholarly sources. All referencing citations must include the author’s name, the year of publication, the exact and complete title of the article/book/monograph, the publisher’s name, the city of publication, and the page numbers. Proper writing style – grammatical correctness, appropriate vocabulary, correct spelling, clear sentences, etc. Please use 12 pt, Times Roman font, double spaced with regular margins (i.e. approx. 2.54 cm). All pages, with the exception of the title page, should be numbered. Your paper must include a title page with your name, your professor’s name and your section number clearly marked.
