Essay Questions Question 1. In section 4.7 of the case study, there was a description of how management treated employees at Company X. Thinking of the Theory of X and Y, given how management treated employees, at Company X, did management prefer to motivate employees based on Theory X, or Theory Y? Present evidence for your answer from the case study, and describe how those behaviors of management indicated how they felt employees would be motivated by their actions. Question 2. Imagine that you hired a company to do an anonymous company survey of Company X, and it was found that morale was low among employees. Employees in different departments had different complaints, but an overall finding was that employees did not feel valued by management. Guided by the Theory of X and Y and informed by section 4.7 of the case study description, recommend an effort that could be implemented by management company-wide at Company X to improve employee morale based on this finding. Relate how your effort is informed by the Theory of X and Y. Question 3. Section 4.5 of Company X’s case study describes the company’s vision, mission and values. As described earlier, Section 4.7 describes some employee issues at Company X. Reflecting upon what you have learned about Human Relations Theory and the Theory of X and Y, would you recommend that Company X change its vision, mission or values in any way? If yes, say how you would change any of these and why (based on the theories). If no, say why you they are effective the way they are (based on the theories). Question 4. Imagine a manager within Company X complained that members of her programming team were lazy. Describe how you would gather data to quantify whether or not this were true, and depending on the outcome, explain how you would recommend she apply the Theory of X and Y to her team. Formatting Guidelines Follow these formatting guidelines: approximately 3 – 4 pages of content, double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font.
