How effective is Alinsky’s model of community organizing to solve social problems?.
One way to test the model is to try to conceive of a problem that can be solved through his guidelines. With that in mind, review “Five Faces of Oppression” and select one of the “faces” Young describes. Find a real-life example of that face of oppression — be it in your home town, in the news, or even here at Roosevelt or in Chicago – and describe how you believe Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals can help organize a group of people to begin to confront and/or solve the problem. In writing this paper, you may use up to two outside sources (in addition to “Five Faces” and Rules for Radicals) to help you describe the problem and the community that the issue resides in. Just remember to cite such sources in your paper using MLA notation guidelines. However, the bulk of the grade will be in the way you use Alinsky’s book to help you create ideas to resolve the problem that Young helps you identify
