Assignment Outline (full details are below): Each student will demonstrate engagement with the research process to begin research on a topic of their choosing. The final project will include: An introduction to the topic A list of 3 library databases that you would recommend a researcher search A list of 3 recommended search terms/phrases that you would recommend a researcher use in a database to search on your topic 3 annotated sources that you would recommend to someone research their topic (see details) 2 authorities that you would recommend a research consult on the topic 2 websites and/or freely available sources for information on the topic (ie: national organizations) Concluding remarks about why the topic is important and/or interesting Details: 1. Introduce your topic and why you selected it. Include your overarching topic and your specific research question. 2. What three databases would you search and why? 3. Describe your search strategy: what search terms and Boolean operators do you use? How did you adjust your search terms to improve your results? 4. Select the 3 best resources that you found that help answer your question. At least one source should be a scholarly journal article, and you should have access to the full article (not just the abstract). Describe the following: Where you found the source and the search strategy you used to find it What role the plays in answering your research question Who wrote the article and why that person is qualified to write it What bias may exist in the article 5. Name two people you would recommend a researcher consult on the topic, and explain why they would be worth consulting. What credentials does this person hold, if any? How could this person help advance this research? 6. Recommend two websites or freely available sources. 7. Based on the information you can provide, what can you conclude about your research topic? What type of information would you pursue if you were to continue the research?
