First Short Paper: Interpreting History: “Abina and the Important Men” by Trevor R. Getz and Liz Clarke

 In a three to four pagepaper (double-spaced, one inch margins) formulate an argument to respond to one of the following questions: 1) Discuss and formulate an argument about the role of gender in Abina and the Important Men. Discuss both the actual court transcript and also how it is depicted in the graphic novel. You may want to focus on some of the following ideas: gender and slavery; Abina’s being a woman in a courtroom of men; the ways in which different men relate to women; the ways in which women relate to other women; how gender is depicted in the transcript vs. in the graphic novel. 2) Is the graphic novel, Abina and the Important Men a fair interpretation of the court transcript upon which it is based? Why or why not?
