Media and Transformation in the Asia-Pacific.
The paper will consist of three (3) questions and you must answer two (2) of these options. Your response should be about 500 words per question. You should demonstrate your engagement with this course by working with the central concepts and ideas from the lectures, readings and tutorials in order to critically analyse the relevant trends in Asia-Pacific media raised by the questions. Exam Questions 1. Explain the call to de-Westernise academic knowledge production of media. Illustrate with an example(s) from Asia to explain why such a call is necessary. 2. What are the limits to explaining the Korean Wave based on the concept of cultural proximity? What concept(s) should enhance or replace it? 3. What are the pros and cons of implementing a British style ‘Creative Industries’ policy within countries in Asia? Is this an appropriate way to nurture and sustain creativity there?
