Description

Summative assessment Completion of a mock research ethics application and supporting documentation. I have attached Issues in the conduct FINAL document, this is mock application that needs to be filled in. I have already written the background section but you can have a look and change it if you feel amending is needed. The other sections need to be completed. The summative assessment for this module is the completion of a mock research ethics application and supporting documentation. Throughout the module you will be designing a research project and this assignment brings your knowledge and skills together to develop an application that is typically submitted for ethical review. A word template is provided on the KEATS module page and the mock application should provide a concise, critical and contemporary literature review synthesizing current evidence and gaps in understanding and the research aims/questions must follow logically from the literature. The design, data collection methods and proposed analysis must be justified along with the sampling and recruitment strategy. User involvement, ethical issues and data management also form key areas of the application. This should be an original piece of work and the use of published or unpublished existing research projects will be considered plagiarism. The application consists of five sections: Research ethics application form Risk checklist Participant information sheet Consent form (to be submitted if necessary) Research instruments (data collection tools) General Guidance Title of project – should be clear, concise and unambiguous, indicate the focus of the study and the research design. Background & research aims/questions/hypotheses (700 words including references and the reference list) A concise literature review is required that critically examines and synthesizes what is already known about your chosen area to research. It should identify gaps or inadequacies in the literature, and clearly detail how the proposed study will build on current understanding. Clear research aims, questions or hypotheses must be stated for the project. Study design/method data collection and analysis (700 words including references and the reference list) This must articulate your proposed research with sufficient clarity and detail to convince the reader that the approach is practical, rigorous and will lead to credible findings to meet the stated aims and objectives. If you are on the MSc programme, the project should be appropriate for a one-year project that would typically include a 3-4month data collection period. If you are on the MRes programme, this may be a longer project (such as a proposal for part of a PhD) but the proposed timeframe must be stated and realistic in relation to the design/methods proposed. Ethical issues Convince the reader that the ethical implications of your specific study have been considered and show how the emotional, physical and intellectual well-being of study participants will be protected.
