Safety During Natural Disasters.

Sources need to be journal articles. The purpose of a literature review is to give the reader an overview of the sociological research that has already been done related to your topic. You will need to find AT LEAST 3 sociological articles in peer-reviewed academic journals. To do this, look over your “sociological imagination” section of your NPR/NYT paper. Those are the questions and musings that you will seek to answer. We are going to the library to have the research librarians guide you through the search process. Once you find your journal articles, read and analyze them. This will be the basis of your literature review. The Writing Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a great overview of how to write a literature review – https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/literature-reviews/ Write a literature review of 5-6 pages in length. Briefly, introduce your current event and explain what sociological questions it raised for you that you are going to explore in the rest of the paper. Spend the bulk of your paper reviewing the relevant sociological research you found. What research methods were used? What were their findings? If you have a theory piece, what arguments does it raise? Finally, reflect on your current event in light of the research. How does the research help you understand your current event? Are there questions you still have? Conclude. Formatting. Double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 1” margins. You may use parenthetical citations rather than endnotes or footnotes. Do include a reference page following APA style. Purdue University has a free style guide. https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/1/
