The A1 Teaching Plan can be based on one (1.) of the following scenarios:
Scenario A – (Pediatric/Parent Caregiver focus)
Group Teaching Plan: Parent education session to a group of twenty Singaporean parents about preventing myopia in children. The parents are a mix of gender, ethnicity, and educational backgrounds. You are a registered school nurse delivering this education at a local Singapore primary school where these parents’ children attend. The session is scheduled for the early evening and will be thirty minutes long.
Scenario B – (Adult patient focus)
Individual Teaching Plan: Respiratory ward-based education for an inpatient with exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)(emphysema type), who is currently being treated for an acute respiratory infection. The patient is a fifty-eight year old male Singaporean of Chinese ethnicity; who is a long term, still active smoker. He works in air conditioning servicing, is married and has two older teenage children. You are a registered nurse in the ward. The aim of the ward education being provided is general COPD education, smoking cessation advice, and future action plan information. The patient is expected to be an inpatient for at least four days.
Scenario C – (Interprofessional Education focus)
Group Teaching Plan: An interprofessional learning exercise session that focuses on improving teamwork and collegial trust within the healthcare team of a Singapore orthopedic rehabilitation unit. This first pilot session will involve a small group of mixed health professionals from the unit.
The session will take place in the unit’s meeting room and run for thirty-five minutes during the afternoon double-shift time. The ten staff at this session will include four registered nurses, one medical staff, one social worker, two physiotherapists, and two occupational therapists. You are a senior registered nurse facilitating this session (This session is an initial pilot session, with the intention of these sessions being repeated for all ward staff over the coming few months).
Scenario D – (Student Nurse focus)
Group Teaching Plan: Educating a small group (four participants) of second-year Singapore student nurses about the effective use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The twenty-five-minute education session will take place in the medical ward’s meeting room. You are a senior registered nurse who holds the medical ward’s infection control portfolio. These four students will be on placement in the medical ward for two weeks. The aim of this education is to ensure these student nurses fully understand the current clinical importance of PPE and that they can use PPE effectively while in your unit.
Scenario E – (Geriatric &/or Community focus)
Group Teaching Plan: Community center education for a group of home-based (independent) older clients on their pre-diabetic conditions and how to prevent further disease progression. There are a total of ten Singaporean participants of mixed ethnicity and gender. The participant’s ages range from 50 to 68. The session will run for fifty minutes. You are a registered community health nurse with a diabetes background.
Scenario F – (Health Literacy focus)
Individual Teaching Plan: Pre-treatment education for a recently diagnosed lymphoma patient who is soon to commence intravenous chemotherapy. The patient is a forty-five-year-old married Singaporean Malay female who has a fifth-grade reading level. You are a registered oncology nurse in the day chemotherapy unit.

Detailed information on the assessment task
Written Report – A teaching plan of 1500 words to be submitted as a ‘Word document’ via Turnitin within blackboard under ‘Assessment 1 Prepare teaching plan (30%)’.
A teaching plan is a holistic analysis and plan of the learning situation prior to a program being implemented.
Students must provide a teaching plan (written report) for one selected scenario. The teaching plan must analyze the context, learner, learning needs, and provide the intended learning outcomes before the teaching strategy/s and methods are presented. Any anticipated strengths and limitations to the teaching plan must also be considered; along with the planned evaluation strategy (Note: Do not fabricate more information in the scenario only work off the information provided).
This plan must include the following components (Please use the following underlined sub-headings in your paper):
- Introduction
- Learning Context (Setting) – discuss the background of the general setting/organisation; & where the learning will actually take place
- Learning to Need Evidence – discuss the learning need/health education deficit focus based on Evidenced-Based Practice (EBP)
- Learner Type – discuss the dynamics of the intended learner/audience – e.g. learning needs, readiness to learn, learning style/s, sociocultural background/s, and current situation
- Learning Aims and Outcomes- discuss the specific learning aims/outcomes and objectives expected from the teaching strategy/session being provided
- Teaching Theories, Strategy, and Methods -discuss the various learning theory/s; plus the teaching strategies and methods intended to be used
- Anticipated Strengths and Limitations – discuss and validate any anticipated strengths and/or limitations of your teaching plan. How are these impacts planned to be dealt with?
- Evaluation plan (briefly discuss how you intend to evaluate both teaching and learning after it has been implemented from all perspectives – e.g. learner, educator, etc.).
