seminar on terrorism/research on al qaeda..

The first part of your paper requires that you select a domestically or internationally based terror/hate group or lone wolf and conduct research on terror/hate groups or lone wolf in general and research on your group in particular. The paper must be up to 6 pages in length, not counting the cover page, bibliography, and any charts, photographs, and tables. The paper must be double-spaced, use a 12 point Times New Roman font, and have margins of one inch all around (for further assistance please go to http://www.lib.jjay.cuny.edu/research/apastyle1.pdf). All pages, with the exception of the first page, must be numbered. References to other works must be cited in accordance with the APA style (for assistance please go to http://www.lib.jjay.cuny.edu/research/apastyle.pdf). You MUST cite each and every source that you use each time that you use it within the body of the paper, not just in the bibliography. The cover page must include a title, your name, the professor’s name, course name, number and section, and the date A paper not formatted as described above and not broken into the six sections described below will be returned to the student unread. If this occurs after the date the paper is due, subsequent submissions will be marked late and a grade deducted. 1. Introduction. This part should be two or three paragraphs long and include the following: a. WHAT – is the topic that you’re researching and writing about. b. WHY – you’re writing about or researching this topic and the impact of a profound understanding of this topic/phenomenon on other areas of study. c. HOW – you conducted your research and gathered your information (i.e., your methodology): literature review, interviews, questionnaires, personal communications, or conducting an internet search. 2. Overview of the General Topic. This part is a literature review of what has been published concerning domestic terror/hate groups. It is written in an essay format and should be three to four pages in length. 3. Overview of Specific Topic. This is a factual overview of the history of your specific terror/hate group, their membership, their beliefs, their motives and their methods of operation. You must not include your personal opinion in this part. This should also be three to four pages in length. 4. Analysis. In this part you evaluate, criticize and synthesize the factual information provided in sections two and three. At the end of this part you should arrive at some conclusions about the topic in general and your terror/hate group in particular. This is the most important part of your paper where I can see your critical thinking rather than what others have written. This part should also be between three and four pages. 5. Summary and Conclusions. Here you reiterate some of what was included in section one as well as the conclusions that you have come to: a. WHAT – was the topic of this research paper. b. WHAT – are the major findings of your research. c. WHAT – are the major recommendations for the future. This section should be three to four paragraphs in length and you must not introduce any new material at this point. 6. Bibliography. You must list, according to the A.P.A. style, all of your sources in alphabetic order, beginning with last names of the author(s), if known, or the name of the publication.
