This is an experiential assignment designed to get us thinking critically about how we use digital technologies inside, and outside, of the classroom. (300 words for the three journal) (1300 words for the essay) Digital Pedagogy Assignment Weight: 35% of final grade (Journal 15%; Response Paper 20%) Due date: October 11th. This is an experiential assignment designed to get us thinking critically about how we use digital technologies inside, and outside, of the classroom. It draws from Howard Rheingold’s article, “Attention, and Other 21st Century Social Media Literacies” (http://er.educause.edu/articles/2010/10/attention-and-other- 21stcentury-social-media-literacies). In it, he puts forward “attention probes” for the classroom. The assignment is in 3 parts. First, over 2 weeks in class (September 24 and 26, October 1 and 3), we will do the “attention probes” laid out in the Rheingold article. These probes are mandatory! Participating in these “attention probes” is necessary to complete the journal portion of the assignment. Students will keep a journal of their experiences of the “attention probes. The Journal is due October 11th and will be submitted with the Response Paper. You will also write a critical response paper that synthesizes the probes, your experience, and course readings. It is due, with the Journal, October 11th via D2L. Description of Probes (from Rheingold article)
