To what extent does ethnography inform design in terms of architecture program and spatial arrangements?.

Introduction Aim and objectives This research ask: “To what extent does ethnography inform design in terms of architecture program and spatial arrangements?”. It aims to give designers an insight into using user centred information and research to transform into architecture concept and accessed in design considerations.

The paper is structured into two main section – the Theory and the Case study. In theory, we introduce the concept of ethnography and we draw a relationship between ethnography and the principles of OMA by it’s principle architect – Rem Koolhass on ‘The generic city’. The latter would be a case study on the Seattle Library by OMA, which we will be focusing on discussing it’s user centred approach and concept.
