Now let’s look at some essays written by other students, modeled on “Two Ways of Seeing a River”. The students were asked to write about a subject similar to Clemens’ piece, a place they had been at two different points in time/their lives, and how their view of the place had changed. Read each of the following essays. None of these essays is perfect. They were all written by students like you, but each of the students was successful in writing a comparison/contrast modeled on Clemens’ writing. Pay special attention to how each student:
a) organized his or her essay
b) the purpose of each comparison and contrast
c) how each comparison and contrast is explained and supported in the body paragraphs.
