You will write a synthesis paper looking at More’s Utopia and Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Required Texts (only use these): Thomas More’s Utopia (original issue) and Margret atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Use the attached file for class notes and topics This is a synthesis paper in which you will use one of the topics and write two ways in which they are similar in both texts mentioned above and one way in which they are different. essentially a compare and contrast paper between the two texts. Plagiarism is not allowed at all. please refer to SparkNotes, the notes provided in the attached files and your own reading of both the texts. Prompt from Professor: You will write a synthesis paper looking at More’s Utopia and Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. You should investigate some idea or theme or concept that you see present in both works and share your analysis of meaning/significance. Your thesis should be arguable and thought-provoking. As evidence, you will use textual excerpts from both novels. Your paper will be about three-four double-spaced pages. The final draft is due on Monday, October 21. Here are some guidelines and suggestions: • Use prewriting to generate your thesis statement and gather support. Spend time thinking about both texts, and freewrite common themes and ideas. • Please remember that Utopia and The Handmaid’s Tale are the ONLY sources you should use for this paper. • You may wish to consider rhetorical strategies, the structure of the piece, the uses of language, or any other aspect of the pieces that interests you.
