Brochure, Newsletter or Glogster

Based on key legislation pertaining to English language learners (ELLs) from your state and from your readings, create a brochure, newsletter, or Glogster to be used to inform parents in your community about English immersion policies and programs. Include the following:

Historical developments that led to the policies regarding the role of English in their children’s classrooms.
Pros for the English immersion program in the community or school you have chosen.
At least two websites that enable parents to get additional information about the English immersion programs that parents would need to know about.
A description of the characteristics of a relevant English immersion program in terms of instructional strategies, time spent in the classroom with other ELL students, and time spent in regular classrooms with native speakers. You can find this information on the California Department of Education
Definitions for any terms that parents would need to know.

Week 1: A Brochure of Key Events

___ assignment is in the form of a brochure ( Microsoft Office has some great templates you can use to get started or you can create your own; just be sure it looks like a brochure), a newsletter, or Glogster

Your brochure should include the following:

___ some historical developments that led to the policies regarding ESL students in your area

___ pro’s to the ESL program your school/district is using

___ at least 2 websites that will provide additional information about the ESL programs

___ a description of the types of strategies, time spent with other ESL students vs. mainstreamed your program provides

*You are allowed to use your state/district information or you can choose to use the Arizona DOE site for this assignment. The choice is yours.

****Please note this should be written for the parents in your community, keep that in mind as you design it*****
