Assignment Overview:
You are employed by a leading logistics company in a business development role. Your Divisional Director has recently attended a networking event where (s)he learned of a ban on waste plastic imports to China.
(S)He had thought that most of the packaging waste recovered by the company had been exported to China and Malaysia and was therefore rather alarmed to find that it was, in fact, piling up in UK ports due to a lack of processing capacity. Rather than risk being rushed into a decision, (s)he has returned home and has asked the business development team for their thoughts on the matter.
You are to prepare an assessment of the commercial opportunities that the ban on plastic imports to China conveys, from the perspective of the logistics company concerned. Your submission should comprise a short Powerpoint presentation plus accompanying notes.
Your presentation is to cover the following subjects as a minimum:
- The background of China’s decision to ban imports of waste plastic
- Your advice on how UK businesses should adapt their supply chains
- An assessment of the commercial opportunities that the Chinese ban offers for your company
- The capability required to take advantage of the opportunities you identify
- A service development plan to implement appropriate solutions on behalf of your customers and their supply chain
