Sustainable power source in the United Arab Emirates.
Your research project should focus on an engineering aspect of an alternative or renewable energy related topic. You may also consider topics related to energy efficiency, energy storage, carbon sequestration, etc. Your topic may range from the specific (e.g., design and performance data from the Oregon Offshore Wave Power Demonstration Project) to more general (e.g., review of devices for harnessing power from waves). However, it should not be too broad (e.g., solar energy), nor should it duplicate material we cover in class already. Submit your proposed topic via iLearn. You have two options regarding the “deliverable” for the research project, a written report or an oral presentation: Written Report Format Guidelines (individual or group of 2 students) Because of the wide variety of topics being researched, individual reports may vary significantly in their format. However, all reports should include the following main components:
• Title page – Include a report title, your name(s), the name of the course and semester, and the date. • Abstract – Provide a stand-alone, single-paragraph summary of your report.
• Introduction – Summarize the background and importance/relevance of the renewable energy topic or technology you have researched. • (main body of report; sections will vary depending on topic/technology) – This section will provide a detailed presentation of the important material you have obtained in researching your topic/technology. For a renewable energy technology (broadly researched), subsections might include: history, theory, practical systems or devices, future areas of research, etc. For a report on a specific technology device or system, subsections might include: theory of operation, device/system details and specifications, experimental results/operating data, etc. Again, tailor the sections to fit your topic/technology. Include figures and tables in your report as needed to support the text of the report. • Summary and Conclusions – Provide a summary and major conclusions of the report. • References – Include a detailed list of all references/resources you used to prepare your report. There is no strict page limit, but I would expect reports to be on the order of 5-10 double-spaced pages (of text, exclusive of figures/tables)
