1. Your first paper for this class is a 3-5 page (not including works cited) literature review addressing a research question that explores the existing scholarly research on a topic in the field of communications studies. Your paper should focus on the relationship between a specific media form and the people who consume or use it. You will use this literature review to help you identify a research question that can be answered through survey research. This paper is due to the BB Turnitin dropbox by 7pm 11/12 2. This paper is broken down into several components: a. A proposal consisting of your preliminary research question and a brief 2-3 sentences explaining the significance and/or relevance of your research question. What are the stakes of this research? Does it have any scholarly or applied implications? This proposal is due to the BB Turnitin dropbox by 7pm 9/24 b. An annotated bibliography of at least 3 sources, due to a BB Turnitin dropbox by 7pm,10/8, worth 5%. i. What is an Annotated Bibliography? 1. An annotated bibliography is a list of the sources you’re using for an assignment, with a brief explanation of relevance after each source. ii. Example of an entry in APA style? Quick, B. L. (2009) The effect of viewing Grey’s Anatomy on Perceptions of Doctors and Patient Satisfaction Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, 53 (1), 38-55. Quick’s study tests the effect of Grey’s Anatomy on patient’s satisfaction with their doctors, an important interpersonal relationship variable. Quick’s modification of cultivation theory and analysis of the mediating factor of perceived program credibility is applicable to my study of the effect of rap music on listener’s relationships with women. iii. An introduction with a research question and a thesis statement. 2. Topic sentences for at least 3 body paragraphs, each of which should be accompanied by an annotated citation of a source that is relevant to that topic sentence. 3. A conclusion ii. Rubric. I will assess your draft based on the following criteria, in this order: 1. Presence of the draft minimum requirements 2. The quality of your research 3. The link between your topic sentences and your citations 4. The connection between your introduction and conclusion 5. The formatting of your citations 6. Grammar and spelling d. A final copy of your paper is to a Turnitin dropbox on BB by 4pm on 11/12. This paper is worth 10 points.
