Make sure to ground your arguments in specific examples and quotations from the texts (both Douglass’s Narrative and The Cherokee Removal). Please use Chicago Style footnotes for all citations. If you don’t know how to do that, make sure to ask me for help! 1) Imagine that Frederick Douglass and a representative from the Cherokee Nation met in 1839 in the Cherokees’ western territory. They have a conversation about each person’s notion of the American “experiment” in democracy based on his or her own experiences. How might that conversation go? You may write this as a more traditional argumentative essay or as a dialogue between the two, or in some other creative way (you are only bounded by the limits of your own imagination here). Your job is to craft an argument about how each person might address the notion of the American “experiment” in democracy.
