An important theme in this course has been human rights: their origin, scope and rationale as well as the measures which must be undertaken in their defense, codification, and promotion. With specific reference to at least three (3) course texts, explain how and why human rights are a core preoccupation of the modern age. 4. Modernity is usually understood as a program for socio-cultural improvement that originates in Europe and spreads throughout Western Civilization in a linear and progressive manner. This standard and largely authoritative definition not only reifies the concept of ‘modernity’ but it tends to be Eurocentric, homogenizing and exclusionary. With reference to as many course resources as possible, advance an original theory of ‘modernity’.
