Jamal khashoggi death analysis.
You will be required to follow and engage with a community of interest throughout the term in online forums and social media platforms. The engagement will focus on a specific event (Jamal khashoggi death) and the discourse that flows from this event. The event must be one that takes place during the course of the term. The analysis will: 1. Give an explanation (for someone uninitiated in the topic) of the event that inspires an online and digital conversation. 2. Using examples, provide a ‘map’ of the discourse, in terms of its participants, content, and style. Between 15 and 20 examples should be used. 3. Identify the broader discourses that the chosen conversation intersects with. 4. From examining the conversation, identify general points of interest and patterns that help to understand the shape of the discourse as a whole. 5. Draw conclusions about some aspect of digital or networked communication (how it works or can be used, its effects, its character, or its regulation, etc.) for which the chosen discourse serves as an example.
Other criteria: Examples used should exemplify the variety of content in the chosen discourse, and may be taken from any websites or social media platforms. Examples may be embedded in the page or screenshots may be provided – where appropriate links should be included to click through to screenshotted sources. Focus questions will be provided to guide students in approaching analysis of discourse. At least some of these focus questions should be addressed. There should be qualitative and quantitative elements in the analysis. At least two peer reviewed academic journal articles should be used in the text of the analysis and referenced at the conclusion. To successfully complete this assignment students are expected to: • Identify key markers for the discussion under analysis (hashtags, phrases and terms, headlines, memes, images, video). • Locate, collect, and collate online content. • Analyse and show the principal sources, scope and reach of the discourse. • Indicate participating agents or antagonists, interests and influence. • Analyse content for the following: points of view; points of contention; broader discourses underpinning discussion; style and vernacular characteristic of the community of interest; rhetorical strategies; protocols Critically reflective commentary and insightful, well explained general conclusions concerning the selected community of interest and the discourse the community engages in
