There is one summative assessment for this module, a 3,000 word report which will build upon the knowledge you have developed throughout the course. This is worth 100% of the marks.

Rationale for assessment design:

It is important for students to understand the integrated nature of the marketing mix and that all decisions relating to the marketing mix have an impact upon each other. Equally, all functions within a business impact upon the reputation, credibility and desirability of a company’s products and services: from accounting and financial management, to how a company treats its workers, everything matters! This assessment will therefore focus on ethical and sustainability issues which can cause distinct challenges for organisations.

There are four module learning outcomes which can be seen in the Syllabus section. This assessment tests all of those outcomes. Students will also build on study skills to use data appropriately and reference supporting theory or statistics.

This module is core to a number of courses but was designed for BA (Hons) Marketing. The aim is to develop transferable business acumen. Students should develop a comprehensive understanding of relevant marketing knowledge and strong skills to transfer that knowledge to any sector. This module supports those learning outcomes and students are invited to choose an organisation from any sector of their choice.

Assessment information and marking standards:

Students should select an organisation that is currently experiencing problems with an ethical or sustainable issue and should base their report on this organisation. It is recommended that all analysis is based on one geographical market e.g. the UK. A 3,000 word report should be written on the marketing challenges that this organisation is facing due to the ethical and/or sustainable issue(s) and how this can be addressed through the creation of a SMART objective and an integrated marketing mix. Students should make reference to appropriate supporting theory and data throughout the report and should use in-text Harvard referencing and a Bibliography. You should not exceed 10% above the allocated word count.
