The Assignment requires you to think about challenges that are found in construction design management and identify one that you think is particularly significant. You must also think about possible solutions to this challenge and evaluate their likely effectiveness, providing recommendations for the most appropriate solution to adopt. You may make any assumptions necessary about project context and procurement approach to enable you to identify a significant challenge, potential solutions and your preferred option. Specifically, the Assignment requires you to:
A. Identify and discuss one significant challenge to effective design management on construction projects. Describe: a. Why does this challenge arise? What typically causes it? b. What effect does this challenge have on the effective management of design?
B. For this challenge identify and evaluate three potential solutions. Describe: 2 a. How do these solutions work, and how could they be implemented? b. How could they resolve the particular challenge identified?
C. Based on your evaluation in B, recommend the most appropriate solution for the design management challenge. Provide: a. A clear argument for your recommendation, and b. An assessment of any shortcomings associated with it. Present your work as an essay totalling no more than 2,500 words in three short sections (Design Management Challenge; Potential Solutions; Recommendation) as outlined above.
