Overview of Cybersecurity Today.
According to the UK Minister for the Armed Forces Nick Harvey (as cited in Dowdy, 2012), “…we must remember that cyber crime, cyber terrorism, cyber espionage or cyber war are simply crime, terrorism, espionage and war by other means.” Within the United States, there are multiple entities responsible for cybersecurity. This can lead to overlapping, missing, or conflicting responsibilities that are required to protect the nation and its critical infrastructure.
In an interconnected world that is dependent on the Internet, the United States must have a cyber strategy and policy or legislation to ensure its interests moving forward as a viable nation. Choose 1 of the 4 following categories, each of which has a different responsibility related to cybersecurity: Homeland security Based on your selection, you are required to explain why your selected area should be given greater authorities, how those would surpass or complement other cyber areas of expertise and align with existing laws, or if they would require changes to an existing law. Discuss what the differences or similarities are between a national strategy for cybersecurity and a national cybersecurity policy. Do not be afraid to use brief personal experiences in your explanation.
