Record-Keeping Strategies

Record-Keeping Strategies.

The importance of developing proactive strategies for potential situations cannot be overstated. Requests for records or court-mandated reporting should be anticipated. When it happens, you may be under pressure of time or circumstance to decide how to proceed. A clear understanding of the differences between school records and sole possession records may enable you to better serve the interests of your students.

For this Assignment, review this week’s resources and draw upon your understanding of the applicable federal statutes.

The Assignment (2–3 pages):

Explain the difference between sole possession records and student records. Provide an example of each type of record.
Explain the ethical and legal implications of each type of record for school counselors.
Provide a “situation” where a school counselor might create notes that are considered sole possession records.
