Comparing and Contrasting Two Websites UMUG Comparing and Contrasting Two Websites This document aims to compare and contrast two websites. These websites are amazon.com and ebay.com. Both the companies are known for providing online shopping services and therefore, these two websites are being studied because provide an opportunity to make a relevant comparison. Four dimensions are used for the comparison and they include proximity, alignment, repetition, and contrast. Each of the elements are discussed in detail along with the presentation of graphics from both the websites. This comparison is made of the one which is more convenient to use and has strong clarity. The simple design of the websites makes them appealing and user-friendly which in turn increases the traffic on the websites and is considered good for the business and profitability. Proximity Amazon The proximity of the website means how the website looks like and what is the design of the website. If the design of the website is not too complex and bombarded with information, the visitors will find it more useful and user-friendly. The proximity of the Amazon website is high as the design is simple and visitors can easily find the relevant information. The related information is kept together and it can be easily accessed through reaching that category. The alignment of the categories at regular space intervals makes it easy to find out the desired category without wasting any time. The images along with the text also make the design more attractive and it becomes easy to relate to the category which is to be accessed. The website has everything grouped in an organized way and with balanced colors that helps them grab the attention of the visitor. Navigation is also easier for the visitor and they can access the relevant information in less than a minute. (amazon.com, 2019).Figure 1 eBay: The proximity of eBay is also simpler but as compared to Amazon, the web design of the eBay website is more complex and it takes more time for a visitor to find out the items on the homepage. This often creates confusion and if the visitor does not find out the required information, he may end up leaving the website without further navigation. So, the categories should be concise. (eBay, 2019) So, the proximity of the amazon website is better than eBay because it is easier to navigate amazon as compared to eBay, and find relevant information. .
