The impact of Europeans on the North American environment took many forms. Europeans brought plants, animals and diseases with them from the Old World, introduced new social structures and economies, and reorganized the way people understood their relationship with the land. As their final research essay, students will write an 8-10 page essay on a topic related to the resettlement of North America by European peoples. The focus of this essay should be an analysis of the primary source(s) featured in the essay proposal. The essay should provide a summary of the primary source, a description of the context within which it was written, and an analysis of the author and her/his production of the source. Essays should have a clear thesis that answers the research question from their proposal, and should use evidence from the primary and secondary source to make points that support the thesis.
