Question A: Explain the impact of social, political, and economic forces on the development of the US military from 1775 through 1890. Explain how these forces helped shape the US military during these first 115 years of its existence. Be sure to include examples and explain their relevance to your argument. Question B: Explain, using historical analysis, the evolving roles of the regular military and the citizen soldier in American military history. Be sure to include a discussion of the origins of this dual approach to military manning, explain the complexities it introduces, and provide a discussion of the pros and cons of this institutional tradition between 1775 and 1890. Question C: Explain, using historical analysis, the evolution of US military leadership between 1775 and 1890. Explain the major issues associated with this evolution including the impact of patronage and graft, professionalization, the cultural impact of times of prolonged peace or war, and the impact of differing perceptions of risk versus gain. Include a discussion of two possibly archetypal leadership profiles that developed in this time period of US military history. Question D: Explain, using historical analysis, the evolution of military technology between 1775 and 1890 and its impact on US military operations and culture. You may choose just one aspect of technology, e.g. rifles, ships of the line, artillery or you may span across as many technologies as you choose
