Research Essay Subject name: Social Impact Assessment and Cross Cultural Negotiation The instructions: Choose one of the following topics, undertake research on the topic and write a case study-based essay (2800-3000 words) on your research that addresses the question: What improvements in the design and conduct of SIA are required in order to achieve more sustainable and equitable outcomes for different stakeholders? Illustrate your argument with reference to crosscultural issues associated with a case study of an SIA. The topics: • SIA and Indigenous rights • SIA in disaster settings • SIA in formal planning systems • SIA and forced resettlement • SIA and mine closure The purpose of this assessment is to apply your understanding of SIA in cross-cultural settings, as well as demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practices associated with more negotiated approaches to SIA, through a research-based case study essay. You will select an essay topic and present evidence to report on an example of a SIA relevant to the topic. At least use 20 academic references and use Harvard referencing style. Everything should be referenced in Text and at the list of references at the end. you should draw upon the literature ( the readings under each week) covered in the unit, where appropriate, in addition+ to your own extra research. Also use subheadings. And please check the sample and try to do the same way of structure because the lecturer said this sample is great organized and structured. What we are looking for: ( It is very important ): • Concise and convincing case studies that use data well to illustrate issues and support arguments
• Balance between description of case study and engagement with relevant literature on SIA.(check the attachments you will find perfect sample and great structure for this assessment please check it ) • Use the review of the relevant wider literature to develop a simple analytical framework (e.g., a few key principles essential to supporting sustainable and equitable outcomes) that you then use to analyse the case study • Base your essay on your analysis of the original SIA (or similar social study) report, rather than relying too much on others’ analysis of the SIA. • Clarity about what is important compared with what is interesting • Excellent research skills and conceptual understanding • Strong communication and presentation skills • Deep personal reflection • Concise and sophisticated argument
