Chinese history.

Essay Question: The history of China between 900 C.E. and 1368 C.E. has been described as an unending series of invasions of China by its northern steppe neighbors. A number of historians have argued quite vigorously that these northern invaders were eventually assimilated into Chinese society, losing many of their indigenous cultural characteristics as they “lived and worked amid the sea of Chinese.” However, in recent years historians have challenged the notion of a Chinese melting pot. Instead, they point to the fact that the northern steppe peoples adopted policies to affirm their ethnic differences from Han Chinese. In your essay describe briefly the history of the northern steppe invasions of China between 900 C.E. and 1368 C.E., and discuss why historians can reach such different conclusions about these northern invasions. Be as specific as possible (names, dates, events, etc.). Essay Instructions: Your paper is due in class on Wednesday, October 16 (the date of your mid-semester exam). Your paper must be typed, double-spaced with 1” margins with 12-point type, and appropriate pagination. Your essay should be no longer than 6 pages in length. I want a cover page with (1) course title and date; (2) your name; (3) proper citation format (Chicago Manual Style), and (4) stapled in the upper left-hand corner.
