School Crisis Response Plan

School Crisis Response Plan.

Description Final Project Guidelines: School Crisis Response Plan For your Final Project, you apply concepts, theories, and approaches presented in the course to a School Crisis Response Plan for a school in your community or your workplace. The Project must be presented as a 13- to 15-page (not including references, title page, or abstract), double-spaced, APA-formatted project in the form of a paper. The Project must be submitted by Day 7 of Week 10. To complete your Final Project: • Briefly summarize a crisis that might affect your school. o Think of a realistic crisis, something that will assist counselors in their day to-day job, perhaps a death in the school, a rash of teen pregnancies, a local natural disaster, an increase of severe bullying, an increase in drug use, or, perhaps, an overdose by student. Do not use a school shooting but use a crisis that might occur more frequently. • Then, create a collaborative crisis response plan as if you were the school counselor. Explain why this plan would be an effective response plan to the identified crisis. Be specific about the components of the plan that are effective. Your plan should include: o A listing of all available key players and their roles in the crisis response o The duties and roles of the school counselor and the crisis response team o A plan for emergency first aid o Referral information and community resources o A plan for a school wide prevention program to decrease the chance of students and staff developing future issues related to the crisis o Your completed Week 8 Assignment: Cultural Audit of Schools • Explain one potential cultural, ethical, or legal issue that may arise as a result of that crisis response plan. • Create a newsletter to share with parents, faculty, and the community in response to the recent traumatic event. The goal of the newsletter is to briefly educate student, faculty, and families about the signs and symptoms of potential trauma in their child, or in someone in their household. This newsletter should be no more than two pages long. • Explain your recommendations of the crisis plan and how parents may utilize it with their child.
