Integration, Mobilities and Belonging

Integration, Mobilities and Belonging.

This assignment requires a writer to complete essays for the following two independent topics. 1. A ‘nation’ can be considered a bounded, imagined community (Anderson, 1991). Do you agree with this? In an increasingly mobile world, how do other forms of identity or association complement or challenge the idea of the ‘nation’? 2. Castles, Vasta and Ozkul (2014) describe Australia as a ‘classical immigration country in transition’. What does this mean and how does it affect migrants living in Australia? Each essay should be one page long (single-spaced and approx. 550 words). As indicated in the questions above, you are expected to refer to the cited literature to discuss which I will upload as PDF files. In these essays, you are expected to cite a few other literature and journal articles to enhance and support the argument. Therefore, I will also upload some course materials that you can cite from. Also, you are allowed to cite other new literature if that is reliable. Please include a reference list at the end if you cite other new literature, but the list will not be included in the word count. Please note that you do not need to include the title of the paper and title of each section (e.g. Introduction or Conclusion) because it is an informal essay. You can go beyond the word limit for a bit. The cited articles: Anderson B (1991) Introduction. In: Anderson B Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism, Revised edition. London: Verso, pp. 1-8. Castles, C, E Vasta and D Ozkul (2014) ‘Australia: A Classical Immigration Country in Transition’ in JF Hollifield, PL Martin and PM Orrenius (eds.) Controlling Immigration: A Global Perspective. Third Edition. Stanford: Stanford University Press.
