Film analysis – Move: “Get Out”.
For your final exam, choose a film that we’ve screened (or will be screening) and write a four-page analysis that examines how the movie functions as a reflexive medium, with the power to expose deep-seated cultural fears, anxieties, dread, and desires (or hopefulness) at a specific moment in American history. As part of your analysis, examine a particular scene or moment and do a sequence shot breakdown that functions as a springboard for your analysis. A strong essay will interrogate not only gender but intersectional elements such as race and class. As you write the essay, draw on the film, relevant course readings, and your own research to reinforce your position and authority as a writer. Your essay must be double-spaced with proper margins, polished, and four full pages.
