Description of Place Essay.
Directions: (5 x 5, Spatial Sequential Pattern): The Description of Place essay will require you to select and describe a place that hold special significance to you. The place selected may be positive or negative location, but you are encouraged to select a place that you know well and feel comfortable sharing with your peers in this context. Introduction/Paragraph #1: Provide an attention getting sentence or two and then, establish the context or location. To do this, provide information about the setting, the context or time period, and essential information that is needed to establish the place selected. Offer up a thesis on the importance of the selected place prior to transitioning into the body of the essay. The structure of the paragraph is as follows:1. Title (Pre-Attention Getting Device)2. Attention Getting Sentence(s)3. Information/Exposition/Context4. Thesis: The thesis should state clearly that the selected location is special for you.5. Transition – The transitions in this essay type will close the preceding paragraph and allude to the content in the next.Body/Paragraphs #2 – 4: You will need to break the place selected down into parts to be described. The descriptive essay is not about movement like the narrative. If you generatea sense of beginning –> middle –> end, you are writing a narrative and not a descriptive essay. Avoid this at all cost. The number of body paragraphs will depend on the differing parts of the place about which you’ve selected to write. The structure of each body paragraph is as follows:1. Topic Sentence – The topic sentences will limit the range of the body paragraphto set up and to create separation in the parts of the essay. 2. Information/Description3. Transition – The transitions in this essay type will close the preceding paragraph and allude to the content in the next.Conclusion: You will construct a reflective conclusion for this essay to complete a structural framing device. The sentences here should reflect on the differing described aspect of the selected location that lead to a concluding statement of why it remains specialfor you.Rules:No second person (you) in any form (Imperative/Interrogative), No Contractions, 12 Pt. Print Font, Double Spaced, Standard Heading & Page Numbers. Remember to use your descriptive tools, Naming, Detailing, and Comparison, as they generate organically. Pay special attention to the verb tense that you select. If you are describing a place from the past, you should use past tense within the body paragraphs.
