Using at least two specific quotes (cite the page they appear on) and considering the ending where Backderf shows us the odd problems of “yellow torpedoes” and the ways we and other nations are now dealing with massive amounts of trash, discuss what you think Backderf might be trying to say in showing us these facts of garbage. Does it seem like there is a realistic solution? Does it seem like we’re going to change and try to find and enact real solutions? The journal needs to be a minimum of one and a half full pages/500-700 words (12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced, 1 inch margins) in order to be eligible for credit, but not more than 3 pages. Format it just as you would a formal essay. Present and discuss at least two specific quotes in your answer, but remember that the purpose here is to develop your own idea in response to the reading, not to summarize it. A journal that is less than one and a half full pages may not be eligible for credit A journal that is only a summary of the text that may or may not include quotations and citations will earn partial credit. A journal that directly answers the journal question, takes a position and uses and cites quotes appropriately (not too much or too little) from the text for support will be eligible for full credit.
