Trashed Research Project..

Length: 4 full pages in standard MLA page format For this project, you’ll read the book, Trashed: By: “Derf Backderf” An Ode to The Crap Job of All Crap Jobs, track your own trash for a week, identify a problem in how we do or don’t deal with trash, and research and propose a solution Step 1: Read Trashed: An Ode to The Crap Job of All Crap Jobs. There will be a few short writing and discussion board assignments associated with the reading. As you read, keep an eye out for trash problems you identify with or think are problems where you live: too much trash, not enough landfills, improper recycling or not having access to recycling, unregulated landfills, too much stuff designed to be thrown away that can’t be reused or recycled, or any other trash problems you spot. You need to keep an eye out for specific problems because you’ll need to identify a specific problem in Trashed that you also see in your city that needs addressing and you’ll write about it more later. Step 2: Track your trash for a week and write a short analysis of what you find. This is a separate assignment worth separate points, but it’s absolutely part of this essay unit. You will track your trash for seven (7) days in a row and then write a short essay where you’ll summarize the results of your trash tracking, identify trends and discuss any problems you find in your trash habits. You’ll briefly suggest a reasonable, real world (doable right now) solution to any of the problems you identify. Most important of all is that you identify a problem that you could potentially research for the other parts of the essay. Steps 3 and 4: Write the 4 page essay that identifies a major trash problem that is mentioned in Trashed and that you have experience about, researches that problem, and proposes and explains a real world (doable now or within a couple years) solution to that problem. Explain how you discovered this problem and where it comes up in Trashed. Does there seem to be a solution in Trashed? Explain what the problem is as you see it – how does it work? where do you see the problem? Present any research you found where other people have also seen the problem. Do they see things the same way you do? Why or why not? Propose a real world solution that could reasonably be put into action within the next couple years. You might use further research to help you find and explain this solution. No, we cannot shoot garbage into space. No, we do not have wizards who can make trash disappear. No, we cannot start burning trash in our back yards. That is why LA had its first real smog problems – consider doing some research on why “Smokey Joes” are not so great.
