Media, Journalism & Digital Labour.
Your answers must include well-chosen, direct quotations from the course readings, with correct in-text citation using a consistent format (MLA, APA, Chicago) of your choice. You must include a Works Cited or References list at the end of your text (using the same format as your in-text citations, ie. MLA, APA or Chicago). In each response, your answer should include: Define and demonstrate the significance of these keywords or concepts, specifically in the context of the course themes covered so far in “Media, Journalism & Digital Labour.” Clearly identify which question you are responding to. Develop your analysis using substantial and direct reference (quotations) to at least one of our course readings and clearly indicate the name or names of the authors and title of the reading or readings that you are referencing. You may reference more than one reading per answer. 5 marks Use full sentences and develop your answers in a structured way that moves from one coherent idea to the next; correct citation and references formatting. 1 mark Grading – 6 marks for each response = 30 marks total Respond to 5 of the following 6 questions. 1)Describe the characteristics of Media Convergence in the digital era. 2) What is the “double edge of freedom” in relation to the labour of freelance journalism? 3)What is an Intersectional Analysis of media labour and what does it allow us to think about and know? 4)How is Coltan mining related to the study of digital labour and what are its impacts? 5)What is “Double Duty” and how does it shape working life and home life? 6)Explain Discursive Framing and Gendered Descriptors. How do these shape the way a story is told? Why it this important?
