For this paper you have to critically examine 2 films through a disability lens. Compare and Contrast how disability related issues are experienced and addressed. You can relate and connect the analysis to themes/topics discussed in the course readings, scholarly papers, and other relevant outside sources. These are the two films: Rory O’ Shea is Here and The Lion Woman (You can find them on Youtube) Some things to include in the paper: Personal: Demography of the disability (type, severity, age of onset, classification) How did it impact living? Identify models of disability . What lens are they looking through? Discuss language used How is disability defined? They person’s view of their disability and how this impacts how they live their life. Aspects of culture on:- -supports given, family attitude, economic status, rituals/beliefs, involvement in family life Social/Community Community views, attitude, response to the person with the disability Supports/services available Opportunities for schooling/employment Social inclusion Urban or country area Socio-political Is there poverty? what is it’s impact on living Is the country developed or developing? compare . Did they ratify the convention (CRPD)? Laws, policies, that impacted living What year is the story happening in? What systems are in place to support people with disabilities APA Things to remember for optimal points: -Remember if you are comparing something to something else please state both things (the same applies to making a contrast) -use additional references (class material,additional readings) -expound on your points eg (don’t just state what is similar, say why you say so, what is the evidence? what information supports what you are saying? *Do not simply retell both films -check for grammar -do spell check -pay attention to your sentences ; run-on (too long), not complete (phrase), tenses.
