Despite our focus in lecture on Rush and King Crimson as progenitors of progressive metal, many influential bands of the 1970s were also moving metal in a more ambitious and generally progressive direction. Choose from the bands/songs listed below. Using your knowledge of progressive rock, and our discussion in class of metal as a genre, discuss how your chosen song and band exemplify aspects of both styles, paying attention to both the music and lyrics. Do some research on the band and the song you’ve chosen for historical context and incorporate this research into your response (cite at least three outside sources: look for interviews, album reviews, articles from a reputable source; avoid Wikipedia). Be sure to cite sources clearly and correctly using MLA formatting song: “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” by Black Sabbath In class we just learned about the stylistic features of progressive rock and heavy metal, so basically we need to see how these different elements are incorporated into the specific song
